Budapest, Hungary
The Statue of Liberty stands atop Gellert Hill overlooking Budpest. She holds a palm leaf over her head.
The statue was erected in 1947 celebrating the Soviets liberation of Hungary from the Axis powers in World War II. The original inscription translated to “To the memory of the liberating Soviet heroes [erected by] the grateful Hungarian people [in] 1945”. Later when sentiment towards the Soviets had shifted that was replaced with the current inscription - “To the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the independence, freedom, and prosperity of Hungary”
